Our Parish Carbon Footprint

According to data produced by the Centre for Sustainable Energy, this is the Carbon Footprint for our Parish – and you can see how it compares to that of Herefordshire and the national picture :

According to the data, the main reasons for our Parish’s carbon footprint being higher than the national average are :

  • Many houses in our area are not on Mains Gas. When those houses were built, or had central heating installed, a domestic fuel oil system was the only viaible option. We now know that this energy source has the highest carbon footprint.
  • For the Travel section, the reason for the higher footprint is evenly split between the fact that (a) as we are a rural community, we use our cars more than those in the city and (b) we fly more than average
  • Our purchase of goods is higher – perhaps due to the average income in the Parish being higher than the national average ?

On other pages of this website, you will find examples of what we can do to reduce our Carbon Footprint in of the 5 main areas highlighted above.
